Announcing the Winners of the Virtual Internships & Kiron Scholarship for Refugee Students

Virtual Internships is thrilled to announce the five winners of our “Virtual Internships & Kiron: Scholarship for Refugee Students!”

For this exciting initiative, we have partnered with Kiron, an organization committed to providing high-quality educational and development opportunities to refugees and underserved communities. 

This scholarship was created to further support individuals from refugee areas, by providing professional development, career exploration, and remote working skills through a Virtual Internship. 

Virtual Internships and Kiron received over 350 applications for this incredibly-competitive scholarship. Applicants were instructed to submit a written application form, as well as answer two video questions on why they should be selected as a scholarship winner. Our five winners were decided from the pool of 350+ scholarship applications and represent a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and career field interests. These winners will embark on their Virtual Internships journeys with their program start dates in November!

Ahmad

Originally from Palestine, Ahmad currently resides in Lebanon and is pursuing his business degree. Ahmad has experience in many healthcare-related positions and will be completing a virtual internship in the business & healthcare fields this November. 

“The scholarship means a lot for me, especially since I am struggling in finding a job or internship,” Ahmad said. “I am looking forward to expanding my professional network, meeting new people from different countries, learning from professionals, and gaining experience!”

Khadijah

Originally from Syria, Khadijah currently resides in Jordan and recently graduated with her degree in Pharmacy. Khadijah has completed many science and IT certifications and will be completing a virtual internship in the marketing field this November.

“Receiving the scholarship means a lot to me because it not only helps me in my professional life, but it is a gift of heaven, and I am very honored to receive this award,” Khadijah said. “I am looking to have more experience and improve my skills, and I hope to learn a significant amount about marketing, advertising, and public relations.”

Maen

Originally from Palestine, Maen currently resides in Jordan and completed his bachelor’s degree in Physics in early 2020. Maen has experience working with several non-profit organizations and will be completing a virtual internship in the international development, NGO & charity field. Maen hopes to gain experience through this internship to one day start his own non-profit organization. 

“It’s a great privilege to be accepted in this scholarship,” said Maen. “It’s really something to be proud of – to be one of the 5 winners among all applicants. I’m super excited to start and live such an amazing opportunity.”

Eshraq

Originally from Yemen, Eshraq currently resides in Jordan. Eshraq has worked as a case manager and translator with UNICEF, and will be completing a virtual internship in the business field this November. 

“This scholarship is considered a great opportunity for me because it can open many doors in the future, because I could not complete my studies due to the difficult circumstances that I am going through,” said Eshraq. “I seek to obtain adequate training and knowledge about business, and also to get experiences from the supervisors.” 

Malek

Originally from Syria, Malek currently resides in Jordan and earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2009. Malek has volunteer experience working with several different non-profit organizations, and will be completing a virtual internship in the computer science & IT field this November.

“I chose the computer science internship so I’m looking forward to improving and developing my skills in IT to get a suitable job in the future,” Malek said. “[This scholarship] means a lot of things to me. I’m still an active person and I’ll be able to achieve my dreams in spite of all the challenges I’m facing these days.”

2020 has seen a massive increase in the focus on remote and virtual work – that is, working completely online without traveling to a physical office each day. These types of work experiences are proving to increase accessibility to professional development opportunities. Without the need for travel and the traditional costs associated with in-person working, more individuals are now able to access valuable work experience than ever before!

Each winner of the “Virtual Internships & Kiron: Scholarship for Refugee Students” has been awarded a fully-funded Virtual Internships program as part of their scholarship. This includes guaranteed internship placement in their desired career field, full support of an internship coach and program experience manager, access to development webinars like our “Global Employability Expert Series”, and access to our virtual professional development curriculum, CareerBridge.
