Virtual Internships and Loyola University Maryland Partner to Enhance Student Employability

BALTIMORE, MD – Thursday, May 16th, 2024 – Loyola University Maryland and Virtual Internships have announced a new partnership through the Sellinger School of Business and Management to offer remote internships to students to launch their careers. The pilot program, starting in June 2024, will support several cohorts of students with their first internship experiences in various fields such as Business, Finance, Marketing, and more, focusing on developing professional skills and enhancing employability from an early stage in their academic journey.

The program will initially support students transitioning from their freshman year to their sophomore year, supporting those looking for a head start in their respective career fields and enabling accessibility to all, particularly first-generation college students. This initiative marks a significant step towards increasing professional opportunities for students.

Irem Demirkan, Ph.D., Associate Dean for faculty affairs, research, student affairs, and experiences at Loyola University Maryland's Sellinger School, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "At Sellinger, we are dedicated to equipping our students with the experiences and critical skills needed to succeed after graduation. By collaborating with Virtual Internships, we're ensuring that our students can apply their academic learning in real-world settings, significantly boosting their early career prospects."

Daniel Nivern, CEO of Virtual Internships, highlighted the benefits of this collaboration: "By partnering with Loyola University Maryland, we are aligning our resources to create customized internship opportunities that cater to the unique needs of students who are at an early stage of their career development  - a pivotal time that can be so impactful. This partnership not only helps students gain invaluable industry exposure but also builds on our commitment to making internships accessible to all, regardless of geographic or socioeconomic barriers.”

Mary Ann Scully, Dean of the Sellinger School of Business and Management, affirmed Sellinger's deep commitment to increasing the chance of lifelong success and impact for its students. “We believe that by introducing them sooner and more frequently to hands-on learning experiences and leveraging our network of business leaders is transformational. This partnership with Virtual Internships is a step forward in that strategic commitment that we believe will change the trajectory of our students' lives”.

The partnership is expected to provide a transformative experience for participating students, who will also have the opportunity to earn academic credit. These remote internships are designed to offer flexible schedules, allowing students to manage their studies while gaining practical experience in their chosen fields.
