At Virtual Internships, we believe access to global work experience is essential for developing resilient and employable graduates, particularly those facing significant challenges. That’s why we're proud to announce our collaboration with the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative, a mission to support Ukrainian higher education institutions and their students during and beyond the ongoing crisis.
The UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative is an institution-to-institution collaboration model that fosters meaningful partnerships between Ukrainian universities and international higher education institutions. Coordinated by the Cormack Consultancy Group with the support of Universities UK International, the President’s Fund of Ukraine for Education, Science, and Sports, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the initiative aims to maintain the integrity of Ukraine’s higher education system and strengthen international collaboration to help Ukrainian universities emerge from the crisis stronger.
Through these partnerships, 107 universities in Ukraine gain access to additional resources, academic exchanges, and skill-building opportunities that ensure students continue to receive high-quality education despite the disruptions caused by war.
As part of our commitment to the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative, Virtual Internships is pledging and facilitating 50 fully sponsored remote internships for students from participating Ukrainian universities. Of those 107 universities participating, the students who have secured a virtual internship are from 18 different institutions. These 12-week internships, requiring just 10 hours per week, will allow students to gain international work experience in fields that are essential to today’s global economy, including:
This initiative is designed to provide students with real-world skills that enhance their employability and enable them to compete in an increasingly globalized job market. With the internships commencing in April 2025, we are thrilled to help these students build a strong foundation for their future careers.
For Ukrainian students, education is not just about academic progression—it’s about resilience, hope, and the ability to rebuild their future despite adversity. Many young people in Ukraine are navigating unprecedented challenges, including displacement, economic hardship, and disrupted education. Providing them with international work experience ensures they are not left behind in the global job market and empowers them to shape their professional destinies.
Through these internships, students will develop critical skills such as adaptability, problem-solving, digital communication, and cross-cultural collaboration—invaluable qualities in any career path. More importantly, working with international businesses allows them to build professional networks beyond their immediate circumstances, opening doors to future employment and career growth.
Several leading Ukrainian universities, including the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Kharkiv National University, and the National Technical University of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, are already participating in this initiative. By offering these students real-world professional experiences, we are ensuring they stay competitive and globally connected despite the difficult conditions at home.
Virtual Internships’ involvement in the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative underscores our broader mission: to make global work experience accessible to all, regardless of location or circumstance. We remain committed to expanding opportunities for emerging talent and equipping them with the skills they need to not just endure, but thrive.
As we move forward, we encourage businesses, educators, and professionals worldwide to support initiatives that help young people overcome adversity and secure their futures. If you would like to learn more or get involved, use one of the buttons below to find out more.
